Hezbollah Places ‘Mossad Agent’ on Trial for Treason
December 19, 2014Hezbollah has put one of its operatives on trial for treason, after he tipped off Israel about five operations to avenge the killing of Hezbollah’s top military commander Imad Mughniyeh, a security source told the Lebanese newspaper Daily Star.
Hezbollah has arrested the informant – Mohammad Shawraba, head of the party’s so-called External Operations Unit, and four from his team about a month ago after they were put under scrutiny for six to seven months, the report said.
It appears as though Shawraba is the Mossad agent Hezbollah recently said it exposed. Until now, the agent had only been identified only by his initials, “M.Sh”.
Hezbollah busted Shawraba after five attempts to carry out operations against Israeli targets to avenge Mughniyeh’s 2008 assassination were botched, the source told the newspaper.
Israel never confirmed or denied it killed Mughniyeh, who died in a massive car bomb blast in Syria, but Israeli intelligence services are widely believed to be the most likely party to have targeted the elusive terrorist kingpin.
In what confirms Hezbollah’s direct involvement in a 2012 bus bombing in the Bulgarian tourist city of Burgas that killed the bus driver and five Israeli tourists, the source said Hezbollah’s suspicions of being infiltrated became real when the Bulgarian Interior Ministry accused it of standing behind the attack.
Bulgarian authorities released photographs of two alleged Hezbollah operatives suspected in the bombing: Milad Farah, also known as Hussein Hussein and Canadian citizen Hassan al-Hajj.
According to the source, Shawraba, 42, informed Israel, which relayed the tip to Bulgaria.
The source added that the bomb carried by Hussein Hussein went off ahead of time inside the passenger bus before it reached its initial target.
Shawraba and his team are currently being tried by a Hezbollah court, the source said.
