‘He went to sleep

May 29, 2016

Its every parent’s worst nightmare: a small child goes to sleep with no apparent signs of life-threatening illness – but never wakes up.

That’s the sad story of a grief-stricken family in the Kiryat HaYovel neighborhood of Jerusalem, who discovered their three-year old son had not woken up Sunday morning – and could not be roused from sleep despite repeated attempts to wake him.

Concern turned to fear, as the desperate parents called emergency services for help.

Volunteer first responders from United Hatzalah arrived and performed first aid and resuscitation attempts. But tragically, they were unable to revive the child, and he was declared dead on the scene.

The cause of the child’s death is still unknown.

Roei Shmuel Zehori, a United Hatzalah first responder who attempted to save the child recalled the incident.

“When I arrived to the place together with additional volunteer [responders] from the motorcycle unit of United Hatzalah, the child was unconscious, was not breathing, and had no heartbeat. We attempted to revive him, but very sadly after the resuscitation attempts, he was declared dead.”

The child’s parents said that he had not felt well in the past few days and had been taken to the doctor on Friday, though no serious illness or life-threatening problems had been found prior to his death.
