Gaza terrorists launch cross-border mortar strike

May 4, 2016

An IDF force conducting operational activity adjacent to the security fence in southern Gaza came under mortar fire from terrorists in the Hamas-run enclave on Wednesday morning.

Fortunately no soldiers were wounded by the mortar shell.

The soldiers responded with tank fire at the source of the barrage. The return fire targeted and damaged a Hamas position in southern Gaza.

The incident comes a day after Gazan terrorists on Tuesday likewise opened fire on IDF soldiers, targeting troops near the Gaza Belt community of Nahal Oz mere hours after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu visited the area.

No injuries were reported, but engineering equipment near the site suffered damage.

In Netanyahu’s surprise visit to soldiers in and near Nahal Oz, he visited the Hamas terror tunnel the IDF uncovered last month and was briefed on updates in the region.

The shootings come in breach of a ceasefire sealed between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization in late August 2014, which brought a close to Operation Protective Edge, Hamas’s third terror war to wipe out the Jewish state.

Also on Tuesday an Arab terrorist launched a car ramming attack near Dolev in Samaria, wounding three IDF soldiers including one seriously. Nevertheless, Netanyahu ordered the return of the terrorist’s body the very same day, despite his stated policy in recent weeks not to return terrorists’ bodies as a deterrent measure.
