Danon: Quartet report is proof of PA’s incitement

July 1, 2016

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, responded on Friday to the Middle East Quartet’s report on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The report condemned Palestinian terror, criticized the continued incitement in the Palestinian Authority, but also blasted Israeli over its “settlement construction” in Judea and Samaria and said it was an obstacle to peace.

“The Quartet’s report provides conclusive proof of official Palestinian Authority (PA) incitement against Israel,” Danon said in response.

Danon also rejected the report’s assertion that Israel’s construction in Judea and Samaria was an obstable to peace.

“We will not apologize for building in our eternal capital of Jerusalem,” said Danon.

“The report highlights the murderous results of the murderous lies spread by the Palestinian Authority. Today a father was murdered in front of his children and the PA continues with its incitement to hatred and violence. The Palestinians must understand that international initiatives will not bring peace to the Middle East,” he continued.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu earlier on Friday rejected the report’s equating between terrorism and Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria, but welcomed its condemnation of the PA’s incitement.

“Israel rejects any attempt to draw moral equivalence between construction and terrorism. So too do we reject the parallels suggested between the campaign of Palestinian terrorism and the violence of marginal elements in Israeli society. The former is lauded by the Palestinian leadership. The latter is utterly condemned and rejected by Israelis across the board,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

“Israel will continue to strive for a genuine, negotiated peace based on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s vision of two states for two peoples. While the report includes numerous factual and policy assertions with which we take issue, Israel will discuss with the Quartet envoys ways to explore moving toward this end,” the statement added.
