Danon: No Jew in Israel Need Fear Arab Terror

July 6, 2015

Science, Space and Technology Minister Danny Danon on Monday pledged to ensure that Jews living in the Hevron region were protected from Arab terror. In the wake of a series of terror incidents in the region recently Danon said that residents of Hevron and Kiryat Arba deserved the same level of protection as residents of any other area.

In recent weeks we have been witness to a number of terror incidents targeting residents of Judea and Samaria,” said Danon. “Our enemies must know that any attempt to harm us will just increase our will to settle and build our land.”

Among the most serious recent incidents was the shooting of Malachi Moshe Rosenfeld, who died of wounds sustained in a shooting north of Jerusalem outside the village of Shvut Rachel, next to Shiloh. Four people were injured in the shooting, the latest victims of what the IDF believes to be an organized terrorist cell operating in the Binyamin region.

Closer to home for the Hevron area residents, Arab arsonists last month set several fires in the Gevaot Forest in the Gush Etzion region of Judea. In response to the repeated arson, Gush Etzion regional council chair Davidi Perl said, “the ongoing situation cannot continue. Arson is a terror attack to all intents and purposes. There’s no need to wait until the terrorists succeed in burning a community in order to understand that this is an attack,” emphasized Perl. “The arson in the forest adjacent to communities is a life-threatening danger, and there needs to be an end to the attacks this very day.”

Last Thursday, Border Police officers foiled a planned stabbing attack near Hevron. The incident began when an 18-year-old Palestinian Arab arrived at a Border Police station. The officers noticed that the suspect was acting suspiciously and called on him to stop. As the officers were arresting the suspect, he dropped a knife that he was carrying on his body. The officers then moved quickly to neutralize and arrest the terrorist.

Danon also visited the Judea Region Research and Development Center, where he met with new area residents – members of the Bnai Menashe community who had recently arrived in Israel from India. Danon praised the Center’s relationship with the community, where a number of its members had found jobs. “We will continue to develop science and technology here, and we will open more such centers in this region,” declared Danon.
