Canada: Woman fires pellet gun at Pokemon Go players

July 25, 2016

A 29-year-old woman from the city of Newmarket, north of Toronto, has been charged after allegedly firing a pellet gun towards people who were playing the new Pokemon Go game on a street in the city.

The woman is facing charges with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A statement by the local police said they responded to a call at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday that a woman was firing at the mobile app players.

Eyewitnesses told police that they saw the woman shooting from the rooftop of an apartment building. The officers subsequently found the suspect inside the apartment, seized the pellet gun and arrested her.

Police believe the woman fired at least four bullets at the Pokemon players. No one was injured.

The Pokemon Go game has become highly popular since it was released – but has also come with controversy.

Both the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, and the Auschwitz Museum in Poland have already asked the application’s developers to remove their museums from the app after users were seen roaming the museums in search of Pokemon.

In addition, on Sunday it was reported that the game has now hit Holocaust memorials in Germany and a Jewish cemetery in Britain.

In addition to all the above, the IDF has warned soldiers that the new app is not to be used on military bases, fearing soldiers might accidentally reveal sensitive information about military bases and army operations.
