Cairo Talks on Monday Despite Hamas Terror Attack in Jerusalem
October 23, 2014Despite the attack by a Hamas terrorist in Jerusalem on Wednesday that murdered a three-month-old baby and wounded eight others, indirect negotiations between the terror group and Israel apparently are to restart next Monday.
The revelation was made Thursday by a leader of the Islamic Jihad terrorist group, which along with Hamas waged war on Israel during the 50-day Operation Protective Edge that ended in an August 26 ceasefire, and which along with Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) is taking part in the Cairo truce talks.
The Islamic Jihad terrorist Khalid al-Batsh told the Palestinian Arab Ma’an News Agency that the Egyptian intermediaries had sent invitations to both sides of the talks, calling on them to return to the Nile state on Monday.
The invitation added that the talks will focus on expanding the six-nautical mile fishing limit on Gaza meant to prevent weapons smuggling and naval attacks, a limitation Gazan fisherman have been systematically breaching in a sort of “marine intifada.”
Other Hamas demands in the talks include the release of hundreds of terrorists in return for the bodies of fallen IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul hy”d, and a sea and airport in Gaza.
The terror group was already pledged $5.2 billion by world states last Sunday to rebuild Gaza, even as it continues to dig terror tunnels into Israel to conduct attacks on Israeli citizens.
Al-Batsh nevertheless accused Israel of “violations” of the ceasefire, saying they should be “confronted in the field” and that the “resistance” should fight back.
What particular “violations” the terrorist was referring to remain unclear, but they likely were an accusation over Israel’s enforcement of the legal naval blockade, and possibly the killing of the Hamas terrorist who murdered a baby on Wednesday.
