Bibi Taps Eli Groner for PMO Director

May 21, 2015

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint Eli Groner, Israel’s current economic attaché in Washington, as Director of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Before his appointment as economic attaché in 2011, he served in a senior capacity in international consulting firm McKinsey and led projects for top companies in the US, Europe and Israel.

“Eli Groner’s rich experience in the numerous roles he has filled in both the public and private sectors leads me to select him for the meaningful job for advancing the Israeli market,” said Netanyahu Thursday.

“Eli will assist me in leading the many reforms we are planning, in increasing competitiveness in the market, in cutting down bureaucracy, in streamlining the governmental mechanism in cooperation with the private sector, and in developing growth engines that are unique to the Israeli market,” added Netanyahu.

The American-born Groner, 40, made aliyah to Israel with his family when he was 15, from Binghamton, New York. He served in the paratroops, where he was the radioman for Moshe Yaalon – now Defense Minister.

After his military service, Groner studied political science at Bar- Ilan University, worked in the spokesman’s office at the Jerusalem municipality, and was a reporter in the Jerusalem Post for five years.
