Bennett: We Extend a Hand of Friendship, They Extend a Knife

October 12, 2015

In his comments at the opening of the Knesset’s winter session, Education Minister and Jewish Home head Naftali Bennett said that Israel needed to take much tougher steps against the Palestinian Authority (PA).

“In recent days we have gone to the homes of mourners whose family members have been murdered in terror attacks,” he said. “What we saw was Jewish bravery and determination, as those who witnessed attacks took steps to stop the carnage and eliminate the terrorists.”

We treat them like a partner and extend a hand of friendship – and they in return extend a hand with a knife to stab us,” Bennett continued.

We have been hearing about how PA chief Mahmoud Abbas is trying to ‘calm the situation,’ and that it is not his people who are behind the rioting. This is a lie – he is at the center of this incitement. Just on Sunday, he declared that the martyrs who kill Jews do not die, but live in Heaven for their action. They praise those who murder us. This is done by the Fatah group that Abbas heads.”

For 20 years we have been imprisoned in the failed ‘vision’ of a ‘Palestinian partner,’ said Bennett. The Palestinian Authority is not a partner, it is not a solution – it is the problem of Israel’s self-conception of security for the past two decades. Helping and strengthening the PA has cost us dearly. It is not easy to change things, but we have no choice – the current situation is costing us far too much.”

Supporting the concept of a Palestinian state, as well, only encourages terrorism – because it gives Palestinian an incentive to attack Israel to advance their cause, he added.
