Barbra Streisand to Perform in Israel to Honor Shimon Peres

Legendary vocalist Barbra Streisand will take the stage in the Holy Land for one performance only this summer, to honor President Shimon Peres for his 90th birthday.
Although the date is not yet firm, according to a report in the Hebrew-language Yediot Acharonot daily newspaper, the Jewish American diva is scheduled to perform on June 15 or 16. Music industry sources confirmed the report.
It is not yet clear where the much-anticipated performance will take place, but Streisand has also reportedly agreed to attend the opening night of the Israeli Presidential Conference on June 18 at Binyanei Ha’Uma, also know as the Jerusalem International Convention Center.
Streisand, who turns 71 in April, has won every major honor that exists in the American entertainment industry, including the Oscar (Academy Award), Grammy, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe Awards. She has released 36 albums that have sold tens of millions of copies, and has starred in numerous films, as well as produced and directed a few.
Streisand has won two Academy Awards, the first in 1969 for Best Actress for her performance in Funny Girl,” and the second for composing the song, “Evergreen,” the love theme from the movie “A Star is Born.”
But in her 50-year career she has set out on only five world tours, the last having been in October 2012, generating some $40 million and attracting 154,000 fans in a brief two month run.
A passionate Zionist, Streisand has been to Israel and has made it a point to raise money for Israeli causes – particularly for the benefit of IDF soldiers — but has never before performed in the Jewish State.
