Artist Portrays The Simpsons in Auschwitz to Raise Awareness

January 25, 2015

Even the Simpsons have joined the world in commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz on Sunday, after artist Alexander Palombo drew the famous cartoon family wearing striped concentration camp uniforms and yellow stars.

Palombo later drew a panel of a ‘Simpsony’ Anne Frank with a “Never Again” sign as well, as part of what he said is a project specifically to encourage Holocaust education.

The project was covered extensively in the Italian and Spanish press, but has not made waves yet in the English-speaking world.

Some 1.1 million people from around Europe – about one million of whom were Jews – perished in the Nazi death camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau between 1940 and 1945.

Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Red Army on January 27, 1945; Tuesday marks the 70th anniversary of its liberation.
