Ariel demands Bennett set ‘red lines’ for Netanyahu
November 29, 2015Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) on Saturday night sent a letter to the chairman of his party, Education Minister Naftali Bennett, demanding that he present Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu with a series of “red lines” in order for Jewish Home to remain in the government
Ariel’s letter comes in light of reports that the Prime Minister is considering a series of “goodwill gestures” to the Palestinian Authority in an attempt to calm the current wave of murderous terrorism.
Among the gestures that were reported upon in recent days were a possible transfer of land from Area C, which is under complete Israeli control in accordance with the Oslo Accords, to the Palestinian Authority.
Another report said that the IDF had issued a recommendation to the political echelon that the PA security forces be given armored vehicles, weapons and ammunition so as to let them enter terror hotbeds that they are more familiar with than the IDF.
“As part of the visit to Israel of Secretary of State John Kerry, there were reports that the Israeli government led by Binyamin Netanyahu is preparing for ‘gestures’ to the Palestinian Authority in order to ‘calm tensions,’” Ariel wrote in his letter to Bennett.
“Among those gestures that were mentioned,” he continued, “were the possibilities of handing over thousands of dunams in Judea and Samaria to Palestinian control, handing over weapons to security officials in the Palestinian Authority and various economic gestures.”
“I view this very seriously. This is a moral crime and giving a prize to terror. Such measures would endanger the lives of Israeli citizens that we – members of the government – are supposed to defend,” wrote Ariel.
“With this in mind, I would like to discuss this at the upcoming faction meeting and reach practical decisions on the political-security red lines of the Jewish Home in the current Israeli government,” he concluded.
