250 Gather in Tel Aviv for Pro-Israel Protest
July 22, 2014About 250 people gathered in Tel Aviv on Monday evening for a demonstration in support of Israel and Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.
The protest came after hundreds of people protested in Jaffa against the operation, demanding that the IDF stop its campaign against Hamas terrorists.
The demonstrators in Tel Aviv shouted, “We are stronger together, we love Israel, we trust the IDF.”
The protest was attended by Israelis from across the political spectrum, who said that in times of war there is no right and left, despite the presence of some rightists who tried to engage the crowds in extreme chants.
“We are strengthening the soldiers and supporting their families,” the demonstrators said.
Earlier Monday, a chaotic demonstration was held in Nazareth, where over 3,000 people protested and threw stones and bottles at police.
The protesters marched through the city and onto the main highway outside town, waving PLO flags and shouting anti-Israel epithets.
Police tried to hold the crowd back, but were only partially successful.
In response to the Arab protests, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman called on Israelis to boycott Arab businesses that take part in the strikes and protests.
On his Facebook page, Liberman wrote that he “called on everyone not to buy in Arab sector stores and businesses that participate in the strike over the IDF’s activities against Gaza terrorists in Operation Protective Edge.”
Those who participated in the boycott, Liberman said, were acting against the interests of Israel, and Israelis should not support them, he added.
