10-Year-Old Killed in Fire in Beit Shemesh

December 24, 2014

A 10-year-old boy died in a fire that broke out in a private home in Beit Shemesh on Tuesday night.

The boy’s father, aged 45, was seriously injured in the fire and taken to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. Four other people suffered moderate and minor injuries, including the mother of the family, aged 45, an 11-year-old boy, a five-year-old girl, and another man.

Moti Harush, a United Hatzalah volunteer who arrived at the scene of the fire, said, “When I arrived at the scene the house was still in flames and firefighters began in extinguishing the fire and rescuing the injured.”

“Unfortunately one child was pronounced dead, and the rest of the family was rescued fully conscious. We provided them with first aid until ambulances arrived at the scene,” he continued.

“It is a very difficult incident and the circumstances that led to the fire are unclear at this stage,” said Harush.
